Multi Defense - Defense against 1NT and artificial club opening
An email I got from Dominique from the Netherlands.
In the Netherlands we play something like Suction but it's a bit different. I also created a variant to play against 1
[alerted] which happens a lot due to the Dutch Doubleton opening.
The name in the Netherlands is MultiDefense
- Double = clubs or diamonds and hearts
- 2 = diamonds or hearts and spades
- 2
= hearts or spades and clubs - 2
= spades or clubs and diamonds - 2
= spades and diamonds - 2NT = hearts and clubs
The last 2 are advised to be played with tolerance for the 3 playing level.
If opponents double the bid: Redouble means bid your colour, pass shows a 5 card suit in that colour.
Versus the 1 [alerted] opening I moved some of the bids from the otherwise natural sequence to a more effective position.

- 1 = spades and diamonds
- 1NT = clubs or diamonds and hearts
- 2 = clubs and hearts
