Defenses to Dutch Two-Bids (Muiderberg, Lucas)
One Defense (contributed by gerrit4_g)
- Double is a willingness to double their major
- Simple Overcall is the same as overcalling a natural One Level opening bid
- Cue bid asks for stopper (invitational to 3NT)
- 4 shows strong hand with Clubs and the other major
- 4 shows strong hand with Diamonds and the other major
- 4NT shows a strong minor 2-suiter (not used often)
Super MAF defence (contributed by gerrit4_g)
- with a strong 2-suiter bid your shortest (!) suit. Responses: bid cheapest of partner's possible suits with 0-6 HCP, other bids show 7+ HCP.
- Double is a strong 1-suiter. Responses are artificial step relays:
- first step = 0-6 HCP
- second step = 7-8 HCP
- third step = 9-10 HCP, etc.
- 2NT is a strong, balanced. Responses:
- 3NT=10+ HCP,
- suit bids at 3/4/5 level are natural and show 5+ cards.
- Pass is none of the above (partner to balance with 10+ points)
Another Defense (contributed by uulkje)
- Double is an opening hand with 4 cards in higher ranking suit, or else a very strong hand
- bid in a suit is an opening hand with 5+ cards
- 2NT is a 16-18 balanced hand. Responses:
