Truscott defense over strong 1/2

Many people are fond of Truscott over 1 or 1 - 1.

• Dbl = Opps suit bid and non-touching suit
• NT = Other two non-touching suits.
• Non jumps = Suit + Next higher suit.
• Jumps = Single Suit.

(Min shape/strength is up to partnership discussion and vulnerable).

Because all of your suits are known, partner can raise (or jump raise) before opener can rebid. Yes, sometimes opener is planning on doubling and taking the money, but sometimes opener has a two-suiter of his own (or a long single suit).

Strong 1

• 1 - DBL = clubs + hearts
• 1 - 1 = diamonds + hearts
• 1 - 1 = hearts + spades
• 1 - 1 = spades + clubs
• 1 - 1NT = diamonds + spades
• 1 - 2 = clubs + diamonds
• 1 - 2 and above all natural single suits

Interference in 4th seat

• 1 - P - 1 - DBL = diamonds + spades
• 1 - P - 1 - 1 = hearts + spades
• 1 - P - 1 - 1 = spades + clubs
• 1 - P - 1 - 1NT = clubs + hearts
• 1 - P - 1 - 2 = clubs + diamonds
• 1 - P - 1 - 2 = diamonds + hearts
