What’s Standard

What’s Standard in Modern Bidding

The bridge articles on this page were first published in Audrey Grant’s Better Bridge Magazine, and are made available to the Calgary Bridge Association with their kind permission. Each article covers one aspect of bidding, and is presented in a two-page PDF format suitable for viewing on line and/or printing.

The first article (Is Standard American a Myth?) presents a short discussion on the “Standard American” bidding system, including it’s strengths, weaknesses and ambiguities.

The second, third and fourth articles present Audrey Grant and David Lindop’s method of implementing and extending the “Standard American” bidding System to address requirements of today’s competitive bidding environment.

Most of the remaining articles cover a major aspect of bidding with examples and the rationale behind the bidding strategies. The last three articles discuss some basics of defensive play.
